Twenty-five young entrepreneurs took a significant step towards business ownership when they received fully equipped cellphone-repair business containers at the Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Sebokeng on 24 August 2026.
The R19 million initiative is led by the Department of Higher Education and Training in partnership with W&RSETA and SAMDDRA. It equips participants with technical training, business infrastructure and entrepreneurial opportunities that support sustainable livelihoods and local economic development.
Participants receive cellphone hardware repair, software troubleshooting and diagnostic training, along with tools, equipment and a business-ready container so they can begin operating after completing their training.
The programme has trained 326 South Africans since 2024 and aims to reach 500 beneficiaries. It also points to future opportunities in related fields such as electronic-waste management, while helping young people establish enterprises and create employment in their communities.
